John and Laura Rivers
John and I bought the property that Turtle Creek Cabin sits on in 1990 and planed to retire there. As God would have it things didn't work out as we planed.
In May of '95 John suffered a major stroke, which has left him bound to a wheel chair and unable to speak. He made progress everyday saying new words and giving me a hard time (ha, ha). I loved every minute that I had with him even if we did have our disagreements, which were few. We were married for 32 years when he passed away.
John's health was going down hill in '96 when I asked him if he wanted to move to Tennessee. We were living in Myakka City (Myakka is Indian for sleeping turtle), Florida in an orange grove that had been in the family since the late '40s. John was the grove manager. He was depressed looking out the window seeing the grove and not being able to take care of it. In Aug. I packed him up and moved to the cabin it was not finished at the time. I had worked most of my life selling parts for diesel trucks and had given up my job to take care of John. We sold our home in Florida and with the money I finished the cabin and built the log home I now live in.
We loved to have guest at the cabin we had hoped to retire there, we moved to the log cabin as the roar of the waterfall bothered John, people who have had strokes tend to be sensitive to loud sounds.
John passed away on Feb. 22, 2003.
I am have built another log cabin and opened it for rentals in Aug. 2003.
We added a paintball park in May 2003 and closed it at the end of 2005 due to rising cost of insurance.
I now have my 88 year old Father living with me. He is a big help. He loves to talk so stop by for a visit.
I have started a construction company in Oct of 2006. The crew is nearing completion of a new cabin, which is up for sale on 2 acres of land with a very nice view. We will be breaking ground on a subdivision, in the Copperbasin, by the end of 2007.
Come and visit for a very relaxing vacation.
